Criminal Court

The International Criminal Court was created to act as a permanent international court focused on holding individuals accountable for serious crimes including genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. It ensures global justice by prosecuting those accused for these crimes based on its founding document the Rome Statute, international law and international conventions.

The ICC at ILYMUN will help you view conflicts from a new perspective and will offer insight on international law and the proceedings of judicial cases. The ICC is perfect for those interested in international relations, criminal law or simply for those who want to try something new.

In alliance with the theme of the conference: Justice in Motion: Building Trust, Protecting Rights.

The ICC case concerns the war in Darfur:

The Prosecutor VS. Omar Al Bashir

Omar Al-Bashir: former President of the Republic of Sudan. Charged with 5 counts of Crimes Against Humanity, 2 counts of War Crimes, 5 counts of Genocide - allegedly committed at least between 2003 and 2008 in Darfur, Sudan.

This contentious case, revolving around profound moral dilemmas and the standards of international criminal law, has been before the ICC since the issuance of the first arrest warrant against Omar al-Bashir in 2009. The case provides compelling insight into modern challenges of accountability, rights protection and the balance of justice and diplomacy.
