When the ILYMUN student delegates come together this spring to represent their assigned countries and give their speeches, there is one thing they should be thinking of long before they set foot out their door on that morning, maybe even before they finish writing their speeches. That is… “what am I going to wear?”
Shaping the Event’s Atmosphere
Dressing to impress isn’t just a saying. Your personal visual presentation is just as important as your speech. Before the audience and your peers hear what you have to say, the impression you will be leaving them with is already taking form due to your appearance and demeanour. Wearing the proper attire shows respect for the conference and your peers. Dress with style and formality to create a professional atmosphere, but make sure you feel comfortable with your clothing choices so you are confident and at ease.
Everyone's collective attire will set an overall tone to the day’s events. Similar dress will make everyone feel welcome and at ease and keep the focus on the work and words rather than any single agenda. Creating an environment of relaxed professionalism will make the day productive, enjoyable, and memorable for all.

Dress for success
If a business suit isn't exactly your style, 'business casual’ is key. This would be any outfit that combines elements of traditional business attire (i.e., a business suit) with elements of more casual dress. A simple example of this would be to swap out your suit slacks for a pair of khakis. The key is to have a polished look and well-fitting attire avoiding overly casual elements like jeans.
Here are some do’s and don’ts to help you select your attire for the upcoming conference:
