The Gossip Box

What is the Gossip Box?

Not all the action at ILYMUN happens when debating. Some of the most interesting stories happen inside of the gossip box.

Throughout the conference, each committee has their very own gossip box where delegates can drop anonymous comments, ‘hear me out’s’, observations, ships or even the occasional roast (all approved by the admin before being put in the box).

This usually results in hilarious snapshots of a committee's secret life: the most nominated hear me outs, the best hair, outfits or even secret admirers.

Why Delegates Love it:

There are many reasons behind the hype around the gossip box. According to many delegates, it has become one of the best ways to break the ice within their committees. After long sessions of occasionally heated debates, the notes often lighten the mood and help everyone relax.

Other delegates claim the real fun comes from anonymity. Because nobody knows who wrote what (though many have suspicions). People feel free to say whatever is on their mind. That could be a compliment, a joke or a bold “hear me out”. After all, MUN isn’t only about the debates, it's also full of moments that make each committee their own.

How the Gossip Box Brings People Together:

The gossip box might seem like it’s just for fun, but it actually helps bring everyone in the committee closer together. It gives people something to laugh/talk about, especially after long debates. Trying to guess who wrote certain notes or reacting to funny comments makes everyone feel more lighthearted and connected.

It also allows quieter people to join in, so even if they don't talk much during debates or between delegates after, they can still write something in the gossip box and be part of the fun. Sometimes, jokes from the box even turn into inside jokes between committee members. In the end, the gossip box isn’t just about the gossip, but also about bringing members of a committee together, and lightening the mood.
